OSG and PDEA signs MOA

Last 02 June 2009, the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement to formalize its partnership towards the fight against the drug menace.  The OSG was represented by Solicitor General Agnes VST Devanadera while the PDEA was represented by Director General Dionisio Santiago.

Under the MOA, the OSG will assist the PDEA on the following tasks: (1) review of the affidavits prepared by the operating units of PDEA; (2) actively participate in case build up and provide legal inputs in the preparation of the cases, prior to its referral to a prosecutor; (3) participate in case conferences and help in strengthening the testimony of witnesses in drug cases; and (4) review and recommend matters that have to be undertaken to strengthen pending complaints and cases.

In addition, some of the lawyers of the OSG will be temporarily assigned at the PDEA to work closely with said agency in fulfilling the abovementioned tasks.

Earlier, the OSG, the PDEA and other drug enforcement agencies of the government collaborated to come up with the PDEA Manual of Operations.  The manual will serve as guide to the PDEA agents in the conduct of their day to day operations against the violators of the Dangerous Drugs Law. The OSG helped in the crafting of the manual with the specific goal of filling up the gaps in the operations to further strengthen PDEA’s drive against the drug menace.

This collaboration of the OSG and the PDEA is a response to the call of the President for an all out war against drugs.
