Solicitor General Invites Bar 2010 Top 10 to Work for OSG

   Monday, 21 March 2011 10:13
Solicitor General Jose Anselmo I. Cadiz warmly invites the 2010 Bar Examination Topnotchers to consider a career in public service and to work for the Office of the Solicitor General.

Four of this year's bar exam top ten were former legal interns at the OSG:

Krizelle Marie F. Poblacion from the University of the Philippines (UP), who placed at number 6, Maria Christina C. Ortua also from UP, at number 7, Johanna Eileen M. Capones from UP, at number 8, and Wiliam Benson S. Gan from the Ateneo de Manila University (Ateneo), at number 9.

Solicitor General Cadiz says that he poses both an  invitation and a challenge to the best and brightest young lawyers of Batch 2010 to put their legal training at the disposal of the People.

The OSG is the law firm of the Republic, representing the Government of the Philippines, its agencies, and instrumentalities, as well as government-owned  or -controlled corporations, in litigation and various other matters requiring the services of lawyers. The OSG also represents the Republic in international litigations, negotiations, or conferences to defend  the State's legal position and to advance its interests.

As the chief advocate of both the Government and of the People, the OSG places a premium not only on excellence, but also on integrity and social justice. Solicitor General Cadiz believes that this year's Bar Top 10 will certainly find working for the OSG both fulfilling and professionally rewarding, considering the challenging nature of representing the State. He says that the OSG is the only law firm in the Philippines where the lawyers work for the benefit of not just a few, but for the welfare of the public at large. Working for the OSG would give these young bar topnotchers the chance to make concrete contributions to the national development.

Several bar topnotchers currently work for the OSG. 2008 Bar Examination first placer Judy Lardizabal from San Sebastian Recoletos College of Law is an associate solicitor at the OSG. Michael T. Macapagal of UP and Denise S. Dy of the Ateneo, who placed 6th and 7th in the Bar Examination of the same year, respectively, are also associate solicitors at the OSG.

The OSG admits around 60 interns to its prestigious legal internship program every year. Applicants are evaluated according to their law school grades and leadership potential. Prospective interns must also hurdle writing tests and a stringent interview process. Hundreds of law students from around the counntry apply to the program each year. Among this year's incoming legal interns is Raissa Laurel, the sophomore San Sebastian law student who lost both her legs in the September 26, 2010 bombing incident, which happened right after the 2010 bar examination was concluded at the De La Salle University Campus on Taft Avenue.
